The recent claims about President Biden being allegedly paid $5 million by an agent of Burisma Holdings have sparked significant debate and scrutiny. He was expected to provide proof that Burisma paid Joe Biden and Hunter Biden significantly. However, the evidence provided by Smirnoff proved to be entirely lacking, leading to his arrest and admission of being an agent of the Russians and lying to the authorities.

The suggestion that Biden could have stopped aid to Ukraine in exchange for such payments is also untenable, as Biden was implementing Obama’s foreign policy in Ukraine.

Viktor Shokin, the Ukrainian prosecutor general, was not actually investigating Burisma or any corruption in Ukraine. In fact, when the UK froze 23 million British pounds of Burisma funds and asked Shokin to investigate, he refused and got the UK to release the cash. This refusal indicates that Shokin was not working against Burisma’s interests, but rather protected them from investigations that were not related to their operations.
When Shokin was eventually fired, the government opened Burismas books. Despite the lack of charges, Burisma paid $7.44 million in late taxes and penalty fees. This further undermines the claim that Burisma was willing to pay millions to remove someone who was protecting them. It is logical that Burisma would pay such a sum to clear their financial obligations, not to remove a prosecutor.
