Living a Life of Royalty: Would It Suit You?

Living a Life of Royalty: Would It Suit You?

Throughout my entire career, I dedicated myself to the transport sector, both in passenger and road haulage. Though the hours were long and often unsociable, the work was fulfilling. While the financial rewards were not substantial, I was doing what I loved. But would I swap this for a life of royalty? No, with my high regard for privacy, I would remain content with my place in society.

The Reality of Being Born into Royalty

Being part of a royal family means no significant change in one’s everyday life. Family members who are born into royalty do not have a different perspective; they simply know no other way. Adjusting to a higher position within the royal hierarchy would be smoother, whereas transitioning to a lower position would be significantly harder. We all occupy our rightful places in society, and I think it is essential to be content with one's role.

Life as a Private Person

As someone who prefers to live a quiet life and avoids being the center of attention, the life of royalty would not be suitable for me. Yet, if it were my fate, I imagine growing up with an abundance of food, quality clothing, and access to excellent education. The family would be close, and there would be occasions for lovely clothing and tiaras. However, I would have to learn to be cautious about who I trust, as I would be warned about the potential for people using me to meet the queen or visit castles.

Challenges of the Royal Life

Living in the public eye means that every moment can be news, and not always for the better. Privacy is a luxury that I, and other royals, do not have. Honey moons, press, and tabloids constantly seek to capture private moments. Our role extends beyond ceremonial duties; we are expected to visit hospitals, charity events, and provide support to those in need, such as the dying, the very ill, and children at hospices. On a positive note, there are opportunities to create play gardens and see faces light up at Christmas. However, this is not easy, and only the strong can handle the demands of serving the nation.

Camilla, for instance, dedicates time to children through her work with charities, ensuring they have treats, meals, and gifts. She and the other duchesses and royals like Princess Anne, Prince Charles, and the beautiful Queen, work tirelessly to support various causes, often at their own expense. Camilla, in particular, works hard to secure funds for various charities, and even assists with significant items such as wheelchairs and medical care.

Realities Beyond the Glamour

When people think of the royal life, they often picture glamorous events and official duties. However, these are just a small part of the day-to-day responsibilities. Most duchesses struggle to find the time to fill in for the hundreds of events and duties required. Princess Anne, for example, frequently participates in events for underprivileged children and those with health issues, ensuring they have treats and big meals, as well as the opportunity to enjoy her home.

The true essence of the royal life lies in the countless hours spent on humanitarian efforts, not just the cutting of ribbons. If someone tells you that these individuals only engage in ceremonial duties and social events, share these facts and challenge such negativity. Recognize the hard work and dedication of those who serve their countries and communities, often without personal benefit.
